AERONAUTICAL SECTOR

Cádiz's aerospace sector will turn 100 years old in 2026. The region is a pillar of the Spanish aerospace industry and has a prominent presence in many major European aerospace projects. Currently, more than 20 companies specialized in aerospace have operations in Cádiz, which is an outstanding global player in this field due to its specialization and export capacity.

Companies such as Airbus, Aernnova and M&M are highly active in the region. An aeronautical and aerospace technology center and the Center for Innovation in Aeronautical and Naval Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, connected to the university environment, ensure that the industry continues to innovate and grow.

The development and promotion of the aeronautical industry is key for Cádiz. With this in mind, incentives such as grants and subsidies are available to companies in this sector, including subsidies focused on international opportunities, and research and development projects.

NAVAL SECTOR

Since 1717, with the first Arsenal de la Carraca, Cádiz has maintained a direct relationship with the naval sector. Today, it is one of Europe’s leaders in shipbuilding. There are significant growth prospects, supported by a concentration of high-level engineering companies that specialize in design, construction and repair of all types of ships.

Thanks to Navantia, a public company, shipbuilding in the Bay of Cádiz has five competitive and specialized verticals with high added value: construction, ship repair, software systems, wind energy, and lifecycle support. In total, the sector generates 13,000 jobs.

Several programs support companies in the naval industry, including companies that wish to enter the region. Among the incentives offered by the region are grants, subsidies, and nonrefundable loans focused on promoting research, development and innovation. Aid is also offered to transform and digitize the industry, to train and develop professionals, and to boost public exposure and positioning of the naval sector at international events.

ENERGY SECTOR

The energy sector – both renewables and traditional sources, such as petrochemicals – is strategically important for Cádiz's economy, both today and for the future.

The region is a pillar of the national petrochemical sector (including Spain's largest refinery, San Roque) and a significant industry for the Spanish economy. It has the advantage of a flexible and efficient logistics system for distribution to local and international markets due to its strategic location.

Similarly, thanks to its strategic location and climate, Cádiz is a leader in renewable energies, specifically onshore wind energy and, soon, offshore wind energy. The region has developed a roadmap into the energy future, including the use of green hydrogen, for which the first projects are already under development.

Cádiz is committed to nurturing this sector through a variety of incentives, grants and subsidies for research and development, including opportunities targeted for renewables. In addition, the region offers plans and programs to support chemical and agrochemical product manufacturing in order to encourage innovation and improve the value chain.

BLUE ECONOMY

Seas and oceans are engines of innovation and growth for sustainable and profitable economic development. This concept of blue economy is based on understanding and imitating the functioning of nature, following the principle of a circular economy.

Cádiz has ideal climatic conditions for the development of industrial projects in this sector. Its abundant annual hours of sunshine and permanent wind -essential for the generation of offshore wind energy- are indispensable conditions for this sector's build-out. The region is surrounded by 300 kilometers of coastline, maintaining a natural and constant relationship with the sea and its uses. It has already implemented support programs for companies in this sector, with a focus on public-private partnerships.

Among the public-private initiatives supporting the blue economy is Incubazul, a business-project incubator that includes a comprehensive accelerator program linked to the blue economy. Currently, 69 companies are working within Incubazul, and a third of them are already selling their products or services. The program is financed with European and Spanish government funds.

Cádiz seeks to further business initiatives that are linked to the sea and the natural resources it offers. To do so, the region offers a robust set of incentives, including financing of business projects focused on the blue economy, funds for training workers and promoting employment in this sector, and financial assistance with digital-transformation projects.

TOURISM SECTOR

Tourism is another of Cádiz's main economic engines. In recent years, tourism in the region has experienced sustained growth: In 2022, 3.2 million tourists visited – a 4.5% increase in annual visitors. This growth is due to several factors, including better airline connections, promotion of new tourist destinations and diversification
Cádiz stands out internationally as a destination with first-class tourism projects in several locations, and future opportunities are even greater. Tourist activity extends throughout the region, with special emphasis on coastal areas and urban enclaves with cultural-heritage value.

In recent years, tourism has gradually become less seasonal. Among Cádiz main tourist attributes are its beaches and the sea, the natural beauty of the mountains and coast, its historical and cultural heritage, water sports, leisure, and a unique and outstanding food and drink scene. Few areas combine so much diversity in landscape and heritage with a specialized quality offering.

Cádiz's commitment to the continued development of its tourism sector is reflected in an extensive program of incentives for new companies and expansion of existing companies. These diverse measures touch on every stage of the value chain. They include reduced taxes for businesses in this sector, subsidies for improving tourism infrastructure, modernization of tourist companies and processes through new technologies, and training plans for workers in the sector.

AGRI-FOOD SECTOR

The agrifood sector is economically strategic for the region of Cádiz, representing 3.1% of regional GDP and generating more than 25,000 direct jobs. The sector is divided into three subsectors: agriculture, fishing, and livestock.

Within the agricultural sub sector, it is important to highlight the area of viticulture, which in Cádiz includes three protected designation of origin recognized worldwide: Jerez-Xeres-Sherry, Manzanilla-Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Vinagre de Jerez. Viticulture is the region's No. 1 export, and Cádiz protected designation of origin are one of Andalucia's primary exports.

The long coastline of the region of Cádiz and agreements with other countries for the use of its fishing grounds favor fishing production, making Cádiz the second most productive fishing region in Spain. Also, a significant percentage of Andalucia's livestock is concentrated in Cadiz.

The agricultural sector in Cádiz has a long history and a broad industrial base with strong institutional support. This includes aid programs and subsidies for investments in processing, marketing or development of new agricultural products, as well as for infrastructure modernization.

CONSTRUCTION SECTOR

"Cádiz, a Leader in Advanced Construction: A Strategic Destination for Investment and Innovation in Andalusia".

The construction industry in the province of Cádiz has experienced a deep transformation over the last few years, becoming a reference in advanced and industrialized construction. This sector, which employs nearly 30,000 people, has adopted new technologies and methods that optimize processes, reduce execution times, and raise standards of sustainability and energy efficiency.

In 2023, Cádiz positioned itself as a leader in construction projects at the Andalusian level, with 1,645 projects, representing a quarter of all the demand carried out in the autonomous community, according to data from the tech firm DoubleTrade. Additionally, the province managed an investment volume of 1.255 billion euros, ranking second in Andalusia, behind Málaga, which reached 1.562 billion euros and carried out 1,435 projects.

Cádiz boasts companies with a long track record and solid structures, specialized in civil engineering, building, renovation, and all types of infrastructure, actively participating in both national and international projects. Moreover, the province is home to training and research centers specializing in advanced construction, working closely with universities and technology centers.

TECNOLOGY SECTOR

Cádiz is becoming a technological hub, excelling in areas such as cybersecurity, nanosatellites, and digital transformation.

In the Campo de Gibraltar, cutting-edge projects like WISeKey in the Port of Algeciras are using blockchain and satellites to ensure container traceability, positioning the region as an intelligent logistics hub.

Meanwhile, Jerez and El Puerto de Santa María are key technological centers, fostering startups and collaboration in a vibrant ecosystem. Sectors like tourism and business are also benefiting from digitalization. In this sense, Cádiz has turned into a smart and globally competitive destination.

The recent launch of the NEXUR Technology Cluster is playing a bottom-line role, as for the promotion of local talent and of a productive modernization. As a result, Cádiz establishes itself as a leader in the digital economy as well as attracting investment and skilled employment. A context which strengthens its strategic position in Europe.
