Strategic and economic sectors in Spain

The region of Cádiz, with 62.687 active companies in 2023, is one of the main business centers in Andalusia. The industrial sector in Cádiz, particularly in the Campo de Gibraltar area, plays an important role.It is the second largest industrial center in Spain, with a significant economic impact and an outstanding presence of national and international companies in various sectors.

The territory of the region of Cádiz has historically been, and still is today, an area of preferential industrial location. The region’s leading industries have adapted their performance to the new challenges and have developed technological and human capacities to maintain competitiveness in their sectors in a world of global supply and changing demands.

The region economy is a mix of different sectors, including agri-food and tourism, but in order to highlight the areas of greatest strategic interest and where the greatest opportunities exist, the following sectors are highlighted:

BLUE ECONOMY

Seas and oceans are engines of innovation and growth for sustainable and profitable economic development. This concept of blue economy is based on understanding and imitating the functioning of nature, following the principle of a circular economy.

Cádiz has ideal climatic conditions for the development of industrial projects in this sector. Its abundant annual hours of sunshine and permanent wind -essential for the generation of offshore wind energy- are indispensable conditions for this sector's build-out. The region is surrounded by 300 kilometers of coastline, maintaining a natural and constant relationship with the sea and its uses. It has already implemented support programs for companies in this sector, with a focus on public-private partnerships.

Among the public-private initiatives supporting the blue economy is Incubazul, a business-project incubator that includes a comprehensive accelerator program linked to the blue economy. Currently, 69 companies are working within Incubazul, and a third of them are already selling their products or services. The program is financed with European and Spanish government funds.

Cádiz seeks to further business initiatives that are linked to the sea and the natural resources it offers. To do so, the region offers a robust set of incentives, including financing of business projects focused on the blue economy, funds for training workers and promoting employment in this sector, and financial assistance with digital-transformation projects.
